Slate and hooks
The mill is a job board, not a lounge with a screen.
Suite 4 still has the enamel slate from a cotton-mill clerk's cage. Sadie kept the hooks. The sofas never arrived.
What the slate actually holds
Grease stick, brass locker tags, a mill horn Holt rings when a condition is honest, and a tray of Pacolet clay we keep honest. Broad Street traffic is courthouse volume most weeks and a campus rumor on Converse nights. The board still marks Tuesday through Saturday noon.
Sunday and Monday the slate stays washed. Sadie mills tags those days and will not pretend a hurried ticket is a job.
